Young Investigator Awards

(1) The Grant Pierce Young Investigator Competition in Basic Cardiovascular Sciences
This competition is open to graduate students and medical students working in the basic cardiovascular sciences. Candidates compete at the Annual IACS North American Section Meeting for substantial prize money. Their conference registration fee and hotel accommodation for a maximum of 3 days are also provided free of charge.

(2) The James Willerson Young Investigator Competition in Translational Cardiovascular Research
This competition is open to graduate students, and medical students working in translational cardiovascular sciences. Candidates compete at the Annual IACS North American Section Meeting for substantial prize money. Their conference registration fee and hotel accommodation for a maximum of 3 days are also provided free of charge.

(3) The Eric Olson Young Investigator Competition in Cardiovascular Science
This competition is open to postdoctoral fellows, clinical residents and clinical fellows working in basic science or clinical medicine. Candidates compete at the Annual IACS North American Section Meeting for substantial prize money. Their conference registration fee and hotel accommodation for a maximum of 3 days are also provided free of charge.

(4) The Kern Wildenthal Young Faculty Orations in Cardiovascular Medicine
This competition is open to faculty who are still within the first 10 years of their first appointment. Candidates compete at the Annual IACS North American Section Meeting for substantial prize money. Their conference registration fee and hotel accommodation for a maximum of 3 days are also provided free of charge.

(5) Dr. Margaret P. Moffat Poster Award Competition (Biomedical Sciences)
Poster presenters compete at the Annual IACS North American Section Meeting for substantial prize money.

(6) Dr. Morris Karmazyn Poster Award Competition (Translational Medicine)
Poster presenters compete at the Annual IACS North American Section Meeting for substantial prize money.

(7) Travel Grants
Travel grants to the Annual IACS North American Section Meeting are distributed among eligible students to support travel and other expenses. The students need to apply for the travel grant at the time of abstract submission for the Annual IACS North American Section Meeting. The selection will be based on the quality and content of the science, as judged by the reviewers.

These Awards are given out on various occasions at IACS Section meetings throughout the world.

  2. Makoto Nagano Award for Distinguished Achievements in Cardiovascular Education
  3. Norman Alpert Award for Established Investigators in Cardiovascular Sciences
  4. Howard Morgan Award for Distinguished Achievements in Cardiovascular Research
  5. Medal of Merit: This highest honour of the Academy is bestowed for outstanding Achievements in Cardiovascular Education and Research
  6. Distinguished Service in Cardiovascular Science, Medicine & Surgery Award
  7. Distinguished Leadership Award
  8. Lifetime Achievement Award
